Decisions...

So my brain is a mess right now. Now 23 weeks pregnant, I feel the clock ticking down the time until Baby A comes. At this point, I kind of know what I think I want in terms of a few things; and I definitely know that there are a million things that I haven't even thought about, and of these things I know nothing. Sense my rising level of despair?

I know it'll all end up fine and dandy, and nothing is easy the first time. I just want to make the best decisions I can make at this point. Here's what I have decided so far:

  • We are going to cloth diaper. After reading up on this green routine on blogs, baby websites, and Baby Bargains (LOVE this book, thank you, Stacey!), and talking to my mom, I am 99.9% sure that this is the route we're going to go, at least for the first baby. Since this decision is made - for the most part - the current overwhelming feeling comes from the plethora of brands out there. Just check out the number: *ahem* Sugar Plum Babies, Bizzy b Hive, Bijou Baby Gear, AngelDry, Aristocrat, Bummis, Windro, Imse Vimse Bumpy, Luxe, Girl Woman Goddess, Lullaby Diapers, BumGenius, Daisy Doodles, Cuddlebuns, DryBees, FuzziBunz, Happy Heiny's, Olive Branch Baby Marathon, Swaddlebees, and twenty million more! I have checked out the Baby Bargains message board, which has some great info about how to start out, but I feel like I need some more support. I am tired of reading and need to SEE something, so I found a local store called Nurtured Family that has cloth diapering classes, and I will be attending one in early April to help me make my purchase decisions. I'm *hoping* that after this class I will have a good understanding of how it all works and what to get, and I'll be ready to dive in (ew). Wish me luck!
  • Crib: white or silver metal? I will post a separate entry about the nursery, but I'll give you a glimpse of what is going on in there. The walls are a light french gray, which I love, and the furniture is white (I have an armoire, two bedside tables, and a double bed frame, which is in the garage and will stay there for a while). The furniture is slightly feminine, but will suffice once I change the ornate handles on the drawers. Anyway, we could go for a white crib, but that would be a lot of white furniture. We were thinking a silver metal crib would be different and more appropriate for a boy, but we can't find anything right now. I know they're out there, but they're hiding from us! If you have any leads, let me know...
...And that is it. I need to figure it all out pretty soon since we need to register by the end of March!

Babytalk aside, I'm planting the garden this week! Stay tuned - and keep your fingers crossed - for our yard renovation. I am no expert, but I love it. Also, our half bath downstairs is getting remodeled. Pictures of that will also be coming, along with a bellyshot, I promise.

Love to all!

  1. go to bratt decor!! they make the iron crib I got for Claire and they make them just plain iron, not painted. they are on sale, too! :) I have lots of friends who use cloth diapers and I'll ask which kind they use.

  3. Maybe check out the Jenny Lind cribs and paint it silver? I've seen quite a few people that have painted cribs, I think you just have to be careful to get lead free paint...

Loved to see that you're going to Cloth Diaper-I'm really interested in doing this when we have kids. My husband is taking some convincing (so I've already brought it up so I can ease him into the idea). Can't wait to see what you end up going with!

  4. My friend loves the Nurtured Family. I have asked my two girlfriends for suggestions and will message you with any info I get on cloth diapers. If I could do all over again, I would have used cloth too. Good luck, friend.
